Vlychada Beach

Vlychada beach is on the south part of the island, slightly on the west of Fira, approximately 13 km distance. Vlychada is a charming fishing village, which is the ideal destination for quiet and serene holidays, where visitors can relax at seaside taverns and cafes. The dark volcanic sand and the yellow volcanic rocks carved by both the wind and the sea, create a moonlike landscape.

If you are trying to slow it down a bit and get away from most of the action, consider this village. perivolosOn the island’s southeast coast, 3 kilometres from Perissa, is Perivolos beach. A wonderfull endless beach, ideal when north winds are blowing, with a bit lighter sand than Perissa (dark grey). Ideal for lovers of beach bars and loud music; the fun starts at midday and goes on until the early hours of the morning.

Our Santorini Car Rental agency’s suggestion to the lovers of crowded places is to visit Perivolos, because it combines a “day club scene” with swimsuits, beach volley and various happenings. Monolithos Beach

monolithos On the east coast of the island, close to the airport and 9 km away from Fira, is Monolithos beach. The fine golden sand combined with the Tamarix trees that offer plentiful shade, make it a perfect destination for families and children. The shallow blue-green waters evoke feelings of childhood after hours of playing under the hot summer sun. Monolithos also is very famous amongst lovers of water sports.

Kokkini Ammos (Red Beach)

red-beachSome 500 m from the archaeological site of Akrotiri, in the southwest of the island, is Kokkini Ammos or Red Beach. Its name is taken from the unique colour of the surrounding rocks and cliffs, as well as the stunning black and red shingle covering its surface. The contrast between the red and black of the beach with the bright blue of the sea creates a magical setting.

Kokkini Ammos beach is not overcrowded and is preferred by people who love adventure and who are enchanted by the beautiful landscape. The beach is accessible only on foot, so a pair of shoes would be recommended. If you choose this beach for swimming and if you are an adventurous person, our Santorini Car Rental agency would recommend renting a car like Suzuki Jimny for going to the beach, and enjoying several off road trails on the island.

Kamari Beach

Kamari is one of the island’s most popular beaches and during the summer months it is flooded by numerous visitors. It is on the east side of the island, just 10 km from Fira, exactly opposite Perissa. Seemingly endless, the black volcanic sand perfectly contrasts the turquoise blue sea, creating a fantastic atmosphere.

With the magnificent Mesa Vouno mountain in the background, this well organised beach is the ideal place for a swim. The area offers a great landscape, especially at night, when the rock is floodlit. Perissa beach resort, situated 15 km from Fira, is in the southeastern part of the island. With an endless expanse of black sand, lapped by deep blue crystal clear waters, Perissa is considered the best beach on the island. One of the attractions is Mesa Vouno mountain, which, under the moonlight, appears to emerge from the sea. Perissa offers a great night view, when the lights of the rock are lit.

Perissa is mainly a tourist village with a well organised beach, which is populated only during the summer holidays. The beach is supervised by lifeguards, with sunbeds and sunshades for hire, tavernas and bars and the possibility of partaking in a range of water sports. The best way to travel to perissa beach is by car. Because of the large number of people visiting Perissa, our Santorini Car Rental agency would suggest renting a Smart, if you’re two people, otherwise, you may rent a car like Fiat Panda or a similar one.
